  • Evil Spirits or Nazi Spy?

The story of the Phantom Barber of Pascagoula By Dan Terry, Host of Most Haunted In some forms of Voodoo, we know that the hair or personal items of the victim is taken and used to make the connection between the Voodoo Doll and the target. But what if someone was breaking into homes and stealing hair from women and young girls? Could it be paranormal related, or some type of Nazi plot to damage a war effort? In June of 1942, in the city of Pascagoula, along the Mississippi coast, factories and shipyards were turning out weapons, food, and transport for the war. If you’ve spent any time along the southern coast, you would know summers are hot and humid, and at that time, air conditioners were a luxury the local workers could scarcely afford. Nights were long and uncomfortable, and now we’ll throw some fear into it. On June 5th, 1942, Mary Evelyn Briggs and Edna Marie Hydel awoke in the bedroom at Our Lady of Victories Convent and saw a man climbing out of the window. Each girl had a lock of their hair missing… A few days later, six-year-old Carol Peattie was sleeping next to her male twin and woke to find a man cutting her hair. He had made entry by cutting the screen. Only a footprint in the sand remained… The following Friday, the case took an ominous turn. Mr. and Mrs. Terrell Heidelberg was sleeping when a man made entry into their home by cutting the screen. This time, instead of scissors, the suspect carried an iron rod. He viciously attacked the couple, knocking Terrell unconscious and busting the teeth out of Mrs. Heidelberg. Due to the intensity and surprise of the attack, no description was available. While the Method of Operation was quite different between the types of cases, the pressure was building on the local police chief, A.W. Ezell. Bloodhounds were used to track the suspect from the Heidelberg home to the local woods, where a pair of bloody gloves were found. Police suspect he had some form of transportation waiting for him there. On June 23rd, Mrs. R.E. Taylor was sleeping in the same room with her husband and children and said she was awakened by something with a “sickening smell.” Mrs. Taylor passed out and woke up violently ill and with hair missing. The investigation revealed the screen had been cut, and a chloroform-soaked rag was found. Mrs. Taylor was quoted as saying she “had a vague feeling of something passing over my face, then woke up feeling ill.” In some newspapers, the Police Chief was quoted as saying there were 10 separate attacks, but these are the only ones I could find. Shortly after the Taylor assault, a 57 year old German born chemist, William Dolan, was arrested for the crimes. Surprisingly, the crimes did stop after the arrest. However, what did not make sense is the different types of crimes that had been attributed to him. Dolan operated a pharmacy in New Orleans before the war. He sold it and retired to Pascagoula. According to Chief Ezell, Dolan had a “coast to coast record” of charges before settling down in southern Mississippi, although no record of those charges was shown. The Chief claimed a witness saw him coming out of the Heidelberg home, but never produced the witness or named him. Police also stated they found a bundle of hair, either in Dolan's home or in a neighboring yard. In the days before DNA evidence, Chief Ezell determined it belonged to Carol Peattie. The primary claim against Dolan was acting on a grudge against Heidelberg, whose father was a judge and had refused to lower Dolan’s bond on a non-related trespassing case that had occurred months before the first appearance of the Phantom Barber. However, the main case against Dolan was that he was German. The U.S. was at the height of war production, and when asked why he broke into the other homes and cut hair, Chief Ezell reasoned that the other attacks were a way to disrupt a major military production area by causing fear and alarm. When that idea was questioned, the Chief found multiple witnesses claiming they had heard Dolan make positive statements about Hitler and the Nazis. Dolan plead not guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced to Prison. Six years later, a new governor of Mississippi had the case re-opened, and Dolan was given a lie-detector test which he passed. Dolan was given a conditional release and was completely released in 1951. But he was never found guilty of the hair-cutting incidents, and the evidence against him on the Heidelberg assaults was circumstantial at best. Was he guilty of any of the crimes? Did the Phantom Barber move to new locations, or did he exist at all? There is little debate that people have been falsely accused and even executed due to their race, religion, or nationality. Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam, convicted of the murder of Malcolm X, spent 55 years in prison based on official misconduct and faulty eye-witness reports, even though one of the actual murderers denied they were involved. Hurricane Rubin Carter spent 19 years in prison for murder before the case was overturned. And Richard Hauptmann, the alleged murderer of the Lindbergh Baby, was executed even though there are some very questionable acts by the investigators. In all high profile, legal cases, from the Kennedy Assassination to the 9/11 attacks, appearances, especially if something makes the government officials look bad, may not be as they seem.

  • Giant Birds Disappear into Portal

By Margie Kay A woman in a small town north of Kansas City, Missouri reported seeing two gigantic birds flying over her home in a rural area. The witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that she and two friends were having barbecue outside one evening in September 2023 when they noticed two huge birds fly out of an area across the road. The location in question is being investigated by myself and another investigator as a possible portal, and we are calling the site the "North Farm" in order to protect the owners. The witness has seen UFOs and balls of light coming out of this location, and even showed us a video she took of what looks like a spinning tornado or vortex. The three witnesses saw the giant birds simply appear out of the vortex area, fly around, then go back into the vortex again, becoming invisible. The witness described the birds as the size of small aircraft with heavy pointed wings, grey in color, and elongated heads like those of a pterodactyl. This is an ongoing investigation, and more information will be posted after we visit the site again.

  • Loud Boom in North Missouri Caused by Ice Quake - Not Aliens

People in north Missouri heard a loud boom last night and it wasn't aliens, it was an ice quake. According to the National Weather Service, Ice quakes occur when temperatures that have dropped below freezing affect water that is trapped underground. As the water rapidly freezes and expands, the ground around it is shifted. The sudden expansion and movement can result in the ground becoming cracked. Along with subzero temperatures quickly freezing the underground water, four main factors come into play in the formation and occurrence of frost quakes: Deeply Saturated Soil For a frost quake to occur, there must be sufficient water present, and this water must be located deep within the ground. This happens most frequently in areas where there has been a great deal of precipitation in some form in a relatively short period. The precipitation can be in the form of rain, sleet, or a mixture of wet weather conditions that have saturated the ground saturated deep down. The severity of the cracking of the soil depends on the amount of water present. Missouri had an unusual amount of rain in the weeks preceding the arctic blast it is now experiencing. Quick-Freeze Regions Experience Frequent Frost Quakes Frost is formed from molecules of water that are present in the air when temperatures plummet quickly to subzero levels. The presence of these two weather conditions is necessary for frost quakes to occur. At this time, temperatures are below zero, and are expected to remain that way for a few days. No doubt, the region will experience more loud booms in the coming days. Tell your friends and neighbors so they don't think there is an alien invasion happening.

  • STRANGEST SCI-FI, Punk and Vampires

Just when you think you've heard it all... By Violet Wisdom Sci-Fi comes in many different forms. Books, movies, comics, video games and worldbuilding table games. Of the IMDB top 10 ranked sci-fi movies of 2023, most are outer space themed, a few AI/robot themed and of course the must have future dystopian. Did you know that there are a slew of subgenres within the sci-fi world? Did you also know that a few of those are WAY out there? Whether you’re looking for a good read, a good flick or about to try your hand at some story telling of your own, this strange list should get you thinking. SPECULATIVE FICTION This is a general term for a fictional story that blends reality and fantasy. The fantasy part can be completely drawn from very real science though not currently in use. For example, the Canadian murder mystery Murdoch Mysteries is primarily based on an inspector who uses technology to create inventions used to solve crimes not quite fully realized in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The basic concepts may have been known but not well enough to make night vision goggles and lie detector machines. SUB GENRE, ALTERNATE HISTORY: This genre found a short lived fad a few years back by entertaining us with a bunch of but what ifs. What if the Roman and Ottoman Empires never ended? What if the Americas didn’t get discovered until 1900? What if we lost WWII? Unlike Quantum Leap and Back to the Future, alternate history doesn’t go back in time to change the future. Instead the reader or viewer is told a story set in a world where those empires remain or America has just been discovered. SCI-FI PUNK Technically considered a part of the Speculative Fiction Genre, punk refers to being punkish. Just like the lines in Punk Rock Girl by The Dead Milkmen; “We went to the Philly Pizza Company and ordered some hot tea The waitress said, “Well no, we only have it iced” So we jumped up on the table and shouted, “Anarchy”” Like that. Edgy. Individualistic. Defiant. Now add a dash of science and technology. You know, like steam… STEAMPUNK: Have you ever seen The Wild, Wild West show? I’m not talking about the 1999 movie, which is actually a movie based on the show. The television show aired between 1965 and 1969. Considered a western, the show is chock full of crazy technology that definitely hadn’t been discovered yet and was very Star Trekky. Here’s the thing about the late 1880s, technological innovation was exploding, and it was powered by steam. Somehow this morphed into a fictional sci-fi genre and finally into an odd nerdy fad for teenagers in the 2000s. If you are really into this or feel it a callin’, there are several steampunk costume stores still around to get you looking the part. There is also a yearly Big River Steampunk Festival in Mark Twain’s hometown of Hannibal, Missouri. This year's festival will be from August 30-Sept 2. If steam isn’t your thing the genre has cousins, cyberpunk, dieselpunk, biopunk and clock. NO! I am not making this up, couldn’t if I tried. Moving on to… ALIEN VAMPIRES AND PUNK ANGELS: This feels very cinematic and very AI. If you aren’t already exhausted at this point of this blog, click here for a great article by the Sydney Morning Herald about those pesky alien vampires and adorable punk angels.

  • Weirdness This Week

Weekly Roundup January 12, 2023 By Violet Wisdom JELLYFISH UFO - NEW VIDEO RELEASED The headline making UFO/UAP seen over a United States military base in Iraq in 2018 is an absolute mystery. The video shows a jellyfish-like object both in shape and transparency floating over the base. The original poster of the video states it moved slowly, zipped and went into water. CONGRESS BRIEFED ON UFOs- MORE BUT NOT ENOUGH This morning’s House Oversight Committee meeting left members of congress once again leaving with more questions than answers. While most stated there was no valuable information shared, some disclosed that some new information was released. All have committed to continue to demand full disclosure. RADIO BURST FROM ANCIENT GALAXIES ENERGY BURST SOURCED In a group of galaxies, far, far, away… an unusually high amount of detectable energy is bursting with such intensity that if it were closer it would render every credit card on earth unusable. The galaxies found to be the source of these bursts by the Hubble telescope are believed to have been around nine billion years ago. Our universe has existed for nearly 14 billion years. Scientists have offered a theory that the bursts are the result of either a neutron star or black hole.

  • Mysterious Tall Humanoid Spotted in Brazil

By Margie Kay Film taken by a person visiting the IIha Do Mel (Honey Island) in Parana, Brazil captured an odd-looking humanoid standing and moving on a hill. There is possibly a second tall creature squatting to the right. Some people have speculated that the creature is an alien, because of its height and strange appearance. In the video, the witnesses discuss its appearance and one person said, "it's too big to be a person." The videographer then follows the figure as it descends the large hill. The video went viral on social media in Brazil, with some saying that the figure appeared to be around ten feet tall, which is similar to the creatures spotted at the Bayside Mall in Miami on January 1. What do you think?

  • Aliens at a Miami Mall?

By Margie Kay Social media is on fire with reports of giant 8 to 10 feet tall aliens chasing and attacking people at the Bayside Mall in Miami, Florida. The incident occurred on January 1, 2024. A man posted a video right after he left the mall. He described very tall shadowy creatures that moved very quickly and appeared and disappeared, leaving some to speculate whether the creatures were phasing in and out of dimensions. Video footage of over 100 police cars on the street in front of the mall and claims of black helicopters on site and people shooting at the alien creatures sparked an internet frenzy. While the local news programs assured citizens that the airports were not closed down, there were no Blackhawk helicopters, and 60,000 people did not lose power as was reported. And certainly, no aliens. The videos circling the internet may tell a different story, however. One video shows panicked people running from the mall and screaming. Here is a video taken from internets posts that shows something very large walking outside the mall: A man named Fitz posted a TikTok video in which he said he was at the mall at the time this occurred, and he and his family saw the creatures which appeared to be 9 to 10 feet tall, black with eyes and lips, and "glitching," which Fitz thought appeared to be uncloaking. Watch the video: https://www.tiktok.com/@guynanedfitz/video/7321224697058790686?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7278393368433329706 Perhaps there is a more mundane explanation: Has Project Blue Beam been activated? Or was this done as a distraction at the same time the Epstein documents were being released? Un-X News would like to hear from anyone who was a witness to this event. • Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Real Phantom

by Violet Wisdom His opera may not have been actually haunted, but according to The Telegraph, his Eaton Square home in London was. Webber’s real life, in a sense I suppose, phantom, isn’t the only spook to visit the particularly entertaining region of England. Several theaters are known to be haunted and according to the article, even Sir Patrick Stewart saw one while performing in a play at one of the theaters. While Webber states he never saw the ghost, it had a strange habit of collecting up his scripts and putting them into a neat pile in a random room. The ghost left after a priest came to Webber’s home and blessed it. From castles to pubs, London is packed with nearly as many ghost stories as humans. London pass ranks the #1 most haunted spot the Liverpool Street Station with common sightings of ghost workers, #2 Bruce Castle, haunted by the Lady of the house who was murdered in the 1600’s and #Clink Prison which was built in 1144. • Oddest Events of 2023

by Violet Wisdom 2023 Round Up, Past, Present and Future! ODDEST EVENTS OF 2023: The May 8 meteorite crash in New Jersey. The four-billion-year-old space rock crashed through a home in Hopewell and although it only weighs 2 ½ pounds, it made it all the way through the room and onto the living room floor. Still not fully explained might be the biggest longlasting headline of 2023, the Chinese Spy balloons. Left to conspiracy for follow up to American and Canadian citizens due to the subject being dropped like a… well, a lead balloon. UFOs/UAPs WILL REMAIN HEADLINES IN 2024 With 2023 being dubbed The Year of the UFO by some, that title is set to spillover into 2024. While several investigations, committees, reporting opportunities and laws passed to protect those with UFO information were created in the last year, none have fully released any solid information. 2023 ends with vows to press forward on the complete release of all information both classified and top secret. Adding to this grand quest are candidates who are putting the demand for UFO transparency at the top of their campaigns. 2024 already promises to keep the ball rolling. LOOKING TOWARD 2024 Through virtual reality? Quite possibly. Move over gamers, everyone will be eyeing your VR goggles soon. Already in early stages of application, the futuristic technology is being tested for use in health care, engineering and real estate. No one is predicting VR vacations, but, gotta say… I’d be tempted. Also on 2024’s big goal list: Quantum Computers- Ahh, the old double-edged sword here. Imagine knowing exactly what the weather will be on a specific day six months in advance. Quantum computing could solve the biggest mysteries of the universe and at the same time allow any program hacked in a matter of seconds. Just like AI, expect to see governments worldwide create laws to restrain advancing technology. Then again, just like AI, the laws themselves will likely be rendered a waste of time by the very technology they attempt to control. AI- Hang on to your hats. This terrifying disaster of an idea will only grow to more applications in 2024. At least we can all agree that so far, given its ability to moderate social media… AI is thus far a complete failure. And don’t even try to order anything customized through a fast food drive through, pretty sure I saw smoke coming out of the screen last time I tried. Whatever 2024 brings, From our house to yours, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Violet Wisdom

  • Holidays Disrupted by Creepy Clowns

By Margie Kay Residents of a small English town are on edge due to two mysterious clowns causing chaos throughout the area. It began Sunday, December 19, 2024 when a woman in Ash, England saw the two teens wearing masks with sharp teeth, which left her daughter petrified. Other locals shared their own scary encounters with the clowns and police are now aware of the situation. The craze of malicious clowns has become a global phenomenon, with arrests, lockdowns, and bans on costumes. Professional clowns have expressed their concern about the artform's reputation and McDonald's has limited Ronald McDonald's public appearances. Steven King's 1986 horror novel "It" in which Pennywise, the killer clown, no doubt had an influence in popular culture. When things began to get out of control, King said about the creepy clown trend: "Time to cool down the clown hysteria - most of 'em are good. Cheer up the kiddies, make people laugh." In 2016 a surge in creepy clown sightings occurred across the U.S. and Atlas Obscura posted a map of 100 sightings around the country: The Definitive Map of America’s Creepy Clown Epidemic - Atlas Obscura. We don't know if this map is updated, but there are a lot of sightings posted there. In August of 2022 a friend of mine told me she and her husband were scared to death when two creepy clowns appeared on their vacation property at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. She said "We arrived after dark one evening and got out of the car to go into the house. We hadn't been there in weeks, and we were looking forward to having a relaxing weekend. Suddenly, a man wearing very scary clown makeup appeared out of the bushes about 20 feet from the back of the car. He had to have already been on the property before we arrived. I screamed and dropped my groceries and my husband turned to look and saw the guy, too. He freaked out and yelled at the guy, who just stood there menacingly for about 30 seconds. Then a second clown appeared the end of our driveway about 80 feet away. My husband then opened the back hatch on the SUV and got out a tire iron. Then the clowns ran into the bushes and trees and disappeared. We grabbed our stuff and went inside the house. I've never been so scared in my life. We are quite a distance from neighbors, and these guys would have had to walk from wherever they came from because we saw no car on the road." The witness said that the clown makeup was very scary, and they had large mouths with rows of pointed teeth painted on their faces. She also said that the clowns looked like grown men, not teenagers or kids. The question is, why would someone go to that much trouble in the middle of a sparsely populated area, not knowing if someone was going to be there or not? The clown archetype has been around for thousands of years, from the Archimimus in Rome, to the Cherokee Booger Dance. Some believe the archetype of the 'killer clown' began with the arrest of John Wayne Gacy in 1978, while others point to Ruggero Leoncavallo's 1892 opera Pagliacci, in which the clown murders his cheating wife on stage. Charles Dickens was asked to edit Grimaldi's memoirs, which highlighted the clown's balance of laughter and misery. The idea that clowns are meant to be harmless is not an old one, as there is an ambiguity to their character which can be both funny and evil.

  • Weird Holiday Traditions Around the World

by Violet Wisdom Radish Sculpting Competition- Oaxaca, Mexico Officially declared a holiday in 1897. December 23rd is Noche de Los Rábanos, Night of the Radishes. Originating as a means to increase market sales, vegetables were carved into sculptures, especially radishes. Today it is an art contest, and apparently ANYTHING can be carved from a radish. Yule Cat Iceland. Jólakötturinn is a hungry cat looking for anyone who doesn’t get new clothes for Christmas. Back in the days before people motivated their workers with special parking spots, employers would simply scare the crap out of their employees. Wool needed to be fully processed and ready for clothes making by mid-December. If you didn’t have new clothes, it was obviously because you didn’t work hard enough. So, yeah a cat would eat you. Duh. Krampus- Germanic, primarily celebrated in Austria Krampus night is December 5th Leave it to the land of creepy fairy tales to bring the world… Krampus. After centuries of Germanic children learning how to behave well with darling night time reads such as the boy who learned his thumbs would be cut off by the town tailor if he kept sucking his them, should Krampus surprise anyone?  Krampus is a wicked looking entity complete with horns who travels alongside Santa Claus to deal with the bad kids. Santa gives the good kids presents and treats in their shoes while Krampus stuffs the bad kids in his sack, beats them and in some stories takes them home for dinner (and I don’t mean as a guest). Geeze, to think I thought the Elf on the Shelf caused anxiety! Swedish goats made of straw- The legend of the Yule goat goes something like this; Thor utilized goats to pull his chariot all day then Thor would eat them each night. No worries, they came back every morning ready to do it again. People in Sweden decorate with goats made of straw and even have a celebration that includes the Yule Sacrifice, Juleoffer. Someone dresses up as a goat and acts out the story of being killed then coming back to life. Hide the Brooms Norway- The witches come out for mischief making on Christmas Eve in Norway, so to prevent any brooms from being stolen, Norweigens take time to hide their brooms before going to bed.  You should probably hide the Swifter, just in case. Decorating with oranges- Medieval Europe I always wondered where this tradition came from. Having very little understanding of how diseases work, oranges with cloves (a pomander which is basically a round piece of fruit with cloves stabbed into it or a round anything with perfumes packed inside like a necklace pendant). Back in the 1600s it was one of many odd attempts to protect people from the plague. In the end, it turned out to be a cool looking holiday decoration so, there you have it. Czechia- Christmas engagements. By throwing one of your shoes over your shoulder while standing just outside your home you can possibly ensure you’ll be getting married soon. The shoe does have to land with the toe pointing to the door or you’ll have to go back to online dating. La Befana- The Gift Giving Witch Italy On the Eve of the Epiphany (the day that celebrates the Three Kings reaching baby Jesus), A good witch makes her to children's homes to fill their stockings. She even takes a few extra moments to sweep up the floors before heading out to the next home. Originating from the Roman goddess Sabine, La Befana has been around since the 1200s. Just like Santa, La Befana only gives treats to good children and coal or garlic to bad children. The city of Urbania is host to the largest celebration of this good witch which includes people dressed to look like her and give candy to children. Instead of cookies and milk, families leave her wine, broccoli and sausages. Forget the treats, I’ll leave her a whole bottle of wine if she’ll come clean my floors! Mari Lwyd - In Wales, carolers go door to door singing with an ornately festive horse skull. Once someone opens a door, they sing and go into a game where the carolers and residents enter a battle of rhyming wits and insults. Once the game is over, the residents invite them in for refreshments. Spider webs for decorations in Ukriane- This one is a lovely story. It begins with a poor widow and her children who wish for a Christmas Tree. Soon after a pinecone falls to the ground and grows into a beautiful Christmas tree. The mother and children cry themselves to sleep on Christmas Eve because they can’t afford to decorate the tree. While sleeping however, the spiders in the house covered the tree with beautiful webs which turned to gold and silver when the sunlight reached them. To this day, Ukrainians decorate their tree with spider web decorations. The pickle ornament- The German Weihnactsgurke is considered a German tradition, however Germans themselves don’t know where it originated. The pickle gets hidden deep in the tree for a child to find. When a child finds it they get a special gift. Maybe a marketing scheme that someone came up with to sell pickle ornaments that took on a life of its own? Pooping Log  Catalonia, Spain The Tió De Nadal is a hollowed out log with legs and a face. The log is fed candy from December 8 until Christmas Eve, all the while kept warm by a blanket. On Christmas morning the log is beaten so that the treats will come out. Sometimes there are even gifts found under the log’s blanket. Not so weird: Yule: On December 22nd, the wheel turns to YULE, Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. The Goddess gives birth to the sun god once again, bringing light back to the Northern Hemisphere.. Winter Solstice is also the day the Celts would bring evergreen fir trees into their homes to remind them the sunlight is increasing a little more each day. This day is more than a Sabbat, it is a celebration to reflect on the previous year and look forward to the new year with new experiences. HAPPY YULE! What is my family's weirdest tradition? We only have a few a bit off the side of normal. First, we have Thriftmas Eve on Christmas Eve. We all draw names and have to bring a gift that is anything but new. It is challenging and often ends up pretty funny. Our other not so typical tradition is the Yule Log Hunt. I started this game over twenty years ago for a Christmas Eve event for the children in our family and neighborhood. I would write ten rhyming clues (clue #1 takes you to clue #2 and so on) to the Yule log, then one clue for each child that would take them to their gift. Just for the heck of it, I did this again with my adult children and their spouses a few years ago for a Christmas Day game. They seemed to enjoy it more than when they were kids and it has become a yearly tradition.
