I've been investigating giant bird, mothman, and pterodactyl sightings for many years, but this is a first. A witness called today to report a strange event that occurred late night/early morning, April 14/15 in the Proctor Neighborhood in Independence.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. Charlotte Johnson headed for bed in her second-floor room when she saw movement outside from the corner of her eye. She looked out the window and was astonished to see a huge black winged creature flying slowly at eye level, not 25 feet in front of her. "This thing flew in a straight line over my driveway and partly over the neighbor's driveway. It was just huge with a wingspan of over 15 to 20 feet."
Johnson said that the creature was all black and had wings, but no feathers were seen. She did indicate that there may have been feathers on the wings, but since it was dark out, they may not have been visible. She could see short legs and claws, but no other details. It did not flap its wings, but merely glided. She did not get a good look at the head. "I've never seen anything like it. I mean, it was big enough to pick up a large dog or a person, for that matter," said Charlotte.
The witness did not go outside to investigate further because she assumed the flying creature was out of sight by the time she could get downstairs. "If it hadn't been for a nearby streelight illuminating the creature, I might not have seen it at all," said Charlotte. "It is very concerning that there is something that big flying around at night, and I don't think I'll be spending much time outside."
Johnson said that this is the first time she has seen anything anomalous.
There have been numerous sightings of giant black birds, pterodactyls, and mothman in the greater Kansas City area since 2011 and before. I have a Google Map detailing these sightings and this event has been posted, along with many others.
My theory is that these creatures are staying close to the Missouri River, which is within a few miles of this location.
