The UN-X Blog

It began when I happened upon an episode of Carter Roy’s Spotify's Conspiracy Theories podcast while watching YouTube. The subject was the famous October 30, 1938, radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds, performed by Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre players.

For all things Halloween, we’re taking a little trip to where it all began. From the ancient Druid’s practice of Samhain to today’s Trunk or Treats, Ireland blends it all together for some intriguing All Hallow’s Eve customs. So whether you know October 31st as Halloween, Samhain, the eve of All Saints Day, Mischief Night or All Hallow’s Eve, in Ireland it is truly the Celtic New Year.

The spookiest season of the year is upon us, and no era had more erie traditions than the Victorian Era. The mid to late 1800s in America was a time of macabre, superstitions and of course celebration. Halloween itself was much less a holiday for children as it is today. Instead, it was a grand excuse for large social events and an opportunity to play out all those odd traditions in ritual and costume.

The Unexplained Network is Sponsoring three contests this month: Best Costume, Best Halloween House Decorations, and Best Story. Prizes sent to the winners.
