Cryptid Hot Spot: Kansas City Area

Cryptid sightings in the greater Kansas City area seem to have increased in recent years. I’ve received reports from several people, and even had my own encounters in this area. The questions are: where are these creatures living, what is their food source, and why aren’t more people seeing or reporting them?

BIGFOOT Multiple sightings of Bigfoot have been reported to OZ Paranormal and the BFRO from this region. The most recent sighting occurred on August 2, 2026, on a 160-acre farm north of Independence. The family, who wished to remain anonymous, has reported several sightings at this location that were previously reported. Most encounters involved unexplained lights, then sightings of Bigfoot, or hearing sounds attributed to the creature. This most recent encounter was much different, in that a man was hit in the face by a rock thrown by an unseen hand. A man was visiting the site after hearing about the unusual activity on the farm. He was a friend of the man who lives there but had never visited. He took a laser flashlight and began to tramp around the wooded area where past sightings have occurred, shining the laser all around the area and yelling for Bigfoot to come out.

The homeowner suggested that his behavior might trigger an unwanted response, but the man would not listen and continued to act in the same manner, so the homeowner left the area and went to the porch on his house, which was 300 feet away. After yelling something again, the visitor was struck in the right side of his face by a small rock. He turned to look but could see nothing, yet he assumed it was a Bigfoot who threw the rock and proceeded to run back to the house, where he found his friend on the porch. He asked if anyone else was out in the woods who may have thrown that rock, and the homeowner said no, and that he had been warned.

CHUPACABRA

in 2025 A woman who wishes to remain anonymous sent the following to me via email: “My BFF saw a cryptid cross over Little Blue Parkway not far from Centerpoint Hospital. This is what she wrote about it: "It walked on both - two and four legs. Some people call it a chupacabra.”

She goes on to say, “My son and his friend saw one in Odessa, Missouri over by the lake near our old house. They said it crawled on all fours and then stood up on two legs and jumped over the fence. It had spikes along the back and large fangs.They both thought they saw a demon. Scared them terribly. My son doesn't like to talk about it." There was an article about this sighting in Missouri Conservationist, which explained that the creature must have been a coyote with mange, but the witness said, “Coyotes don’t stand up on two hind legs.”

WRAITH or SKINWALKER

In 2023, I had my own sighting of a strange creature while driving south on Crysler just past Truman Road in Independence after dark. A creepy-looking thin man wearing a hoodie crouched down on all fours and crawled across the road, then suddenly, he flew backward through the air to the middle of the road in one second, and crawled once again.This happened a third time, and finally, as I was driving past, he stood up.  It was as if a movie played back three times.I could not see his face, but his arms were unusually long. As he reached the sidewalk, he crouched down, then stood up and morphed into a young teenager wearing a backpack. I kept driving as I knew that this was not a normal human being. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and still don't today. Some people suggested that this was a skinwalker. 

GIANT CLOUD DOG

In the fall of 2012, my daughter and her husband were driving westbound on 23^rd Street near Spot Not car wash in Independence, when they saw something running towards them in the other lane. It looked like a white cloud shaped like a dog that was as tall as the roof of their car and as long as the car. It ran like a dog on all fours, past their vehicle. The couple looked in the mirrors, then turned to look out the back window, but the creature was no longer visible. My daughter said that the creature looked like a monstrous Borzoi, a large Russian Sighthound. She still can't believe what she and her husband saw that day. 

LARGE BLACK CATS

From 2009 to 2026, I received several reports of a very large panther-sized black cat in Raytown, Missouri, which is just south of Independence. One witness said she was sitting on her front porch and noticed that the neighbor across the street had a new large black cat ornament in their yard - until it walked away. She got up, went back into the house, and won't sit outside any longer. 

Two people witnessed a large black cat walking, then it dissolved into thin air near 57th and Sterling. 

A man who lives near 63rd Street in Raytown said he saw a huge black cat running across the busy street late at night. He called the Missouri Department of Conservation, and they told him that there couldn't be any panthers in that area. As far as he knows, they did not investigate.  In May of 2026, a couple was driving on 63rd street in Raytown and turned onto a side street where they watched a huge black cat the size of a full-grown panther cross the street 50 feet in front of them. They drove past while looking for the creature but it did not reappear. The couple did not believe that the cat could have dissappared behind a house in the amount of time it took them to reach the spot where it was seen.

Is it possible that a real black panther is living in Raytown, or is this a supernatural creature? 

These sightings, combined with the large cryptid winged creatures, and pterodactyls seen in the area, are concerning. (See my previous posts) Does East Jackson County have a portal to another dimension that is allowing these types of creatures to come and go at will?  This needs further investigation.
