The mysterious sphere found in March in Columbia is getting attention for more than its existence. In this new world of instant information, sightings, experiences and even mysterious objects can be known to the entire world with a single social media post. While the media scrambles to get enough information to write up a quick article about a viral topic, public opinion is already making up its mind. In the case of the Columbian sphere that is said to have fallen from the sky, we’re two months past the event and still have no definitive answers from the scientific community. This is becoming an equally good and bad situation.

The Good- The unexplained can no longer be isolated and buried on a local level. The adage; Nothing to see here doesn’t apply, because the world has already seen it. Transparency couldn’t be well demanded when sightings were kept to the experiencers, local police and kitchen tables. While the sphere might truly require an extremely long amount of time to be studied and understood, the fact that everyone knows about it means it can’t be put on the back burner. That said, we do have a tendency to forget yesterday’s headlines the second today’s headlines reach our eyes. Will there be enough advocates to stay on top of these stories and refuse to let them go until answers are provided?
The Bad- Already, doubt in the validity of the sphere has been presented based solely on previously debunked stories. While we don’t know if the sphere is alien yet, I find this to be clickbait. The comparison is to last year’s claim that alien skeletons were found in Peru, later determined to be made of animal bones glued together. The two aren’t in any way similar. And while some likely believe the animal bones explanation is yet another attempt to keep humanity in the dark, it also could be true. There will always be those who invent stories for attention, giving justification for an official ruling of hoax on every potential alien artifact.
Here’s what we do know: the sphere is made of “high-density materials”, specifically undisclosed if known. It was found after falling from the sky and was visually seen flying before its descent. It has markings that are similar to Mesopotamian writing and was constructed without seams. Finally, the man who found it states it made him feel ill. While the mysteries continue to stack up, the frustration over waiting for answers grows. We’re beyond accepting explanations like weather balloons, atmospheric phenomena, and as officially stated in the official AARO report , we watch too much television.
This sphere might be art, it might be a cool yard sale find, and it also very well could be alien. We’ll have to lean on the experts, many of which are our own podcast hosts, to know which stories are worth demanding answers on and which to let go.
